What is the SAT exam?

SAT or the Scholastic Assessment Test is a standardised test for students who want to pursue their undergraduation abroad. SAT is conducted by the College Board and SAT scores are accepted in all countries. Over 800 universities all throughout the world accept the SAT scores. It is mandatory for students to qualify the SAT in order to take admission for undergraduate programs in overseas universities.

The SAT exam was designed to check college readiness of students on the basis of certain academic parameters like literacy, numeracy and writing skills.

The time duration of the SAT digital exam has been reduced by one hour. However, the syllabus, marking and score range remains the same.

SAT Exam Syllabus

The SAT exam syllabus is divided into 2 broad categories

Evidence Based Reading & Writing and Maths : There is a SAT essay section which is completely optional for candidates. However, some universities prefer the students to attempt the essay as well. The Scholastic Assessment Test exam has a time limit of 2 hours and 30 Mins with extra time allotted for essays. The total score is 1600.

  • Reading Comprehension – 25 mins
  • Sentence Completions – 25 mins
  • Paragraph – Length Critical Reading – 20 mins

SAT Writing Section

  • Essay Section – 25 mins
  • Multiple Choice Sections-25 mins and 10 mins

SAT Maths Section

  • Algebra and Functions – 25 mins

  • Probability and Data Analysis – 20 mins

Algebra: This Maths Algebra section contains 19 questions.

Problem Solving and Data Analysis:This maths section involves 17 questions on Problem-solving and Data Analysis.

Passport to Advanced Maths: This section has 16 questions and it comprises:

  • Identifying and creating algebraic expression
  • Analyzing and solving quadratic and nonlinear equations
  • Using graphical exponential, quadratic and other nonlinear equations

Additional Topics: This section contains 6 questions from topics like triangle, circle, polygon, and more

  • Solving problems of area and volume of figures.
  • theorems related problems from
  • sums from right triangles, the unit circle, and trigonometric functions.

Questions from Cross-Test Scores: It is a Non calculator section .It contains:

  • 8 questions for analysis in Science
  • 8 questions for analysis in History/Social Studies

The maths test has 2 parts- with calculator test and without calculator test. The maths test with a calculator includes 38 questions with a time frame of 55 mins. Maths test without a calculator has 20 questions to be answered in 25 mins.

SAT Score Range is between 400-1600 and the section-wise range is 200-800.

You can send your SAT scores to your selected colleges and universities only after checking them on the College Board.

In case you are not satisfied with the SAT results, then you can choose “score verification” or you can cancel the scores by clicking on “score cancellation”. Your results will not be sent to the selected universities.

How to Check your SAT Scores?

SAT exam scores are announced within 3 weeks from the exam date. SAT candidates can check their SAT results on the official website of the College Board.

  • Go to the official website of the College and sign in with your user ID and password.
  • Go to the ‘My Organizer’ section
  • Click on ‘SAT scores’
  • Click on ‘Assess my scores’
  • The candidate has to enter their user credentials again
  • Visit ‘my test scores’ section
  • The SAT scorecard will appear on the screen. This scorecard will show your overall score, sectional score, sub score, essay score as well as the percentile score.

Candidates who register through mail will receive their SAT results and scorecard in their mail. You can also get your SAT scores through the phone provided you pay an extra amount
